HP LaserJet 1100

Monday, June 17, 2013
The HP LaserJet 1100 is supplied with a mere 2Mb of internal memory as standard. We upgraded ours to have 8Mb. The more memory a printer has the quicker it can handle print data. It also has a 35Mhz Motorola processor.

The printer has a standard resolution of 600 dpi which is a perfectly decent resolution for a printer, especially a laser. It’s capable of 8 pages per minute and our experience is that it actually achieves that too. The printer can be connected using a parallel port or as is more commonly the case with a workgroup, network using the Ethernet adapter.

The paper tray can handle a total of 125 sheets, so while this has network capabilities, it might feel more at home as a single user or SOHO printer. I imagine larger workgroups might end up being a bit much for it after a while, especially with only 8Mb of memory.

We are such SOHO users, so can vouch for its capability as that. There are only three of us on our network and have yet to give the 1100 pause. We aren’t great printers, but there are times, especially when a deadline looms that things get a bit frenetic and we’re all trying to get our individual parts of a project done at once.

Print quality is second to none, even with only 600 dpi to work with. It doesn’t matter so much to a laser than to an inkjet. In our experience, coverage is much more even, precise and quicker than with ink. Photos and images are much better with an inkjet, but seem a bit more expensive to print. Our requirements are predominantly textual, so it matters little to us.

The LaserJet 1100 prints text well, whatever the size. We are journalists so we use standard fonts, MLA formatting and only the odd image, as the editor adds those himself. Test in Times New Roman is pretty standard, you can’t really go wrong with it, but when we print something non-work related, it handles other fonts and points very well indeed.

The HP LaserJet 1100 is a good old workhorse printer. While marketed at a workgroup, I’m not sure its suited to one larger than ours. It works well, prints well and has given us no trouble since we owned it.

HP LaserJet 4700

Thursday, June 13, 2013
Yet another addition to the world of HPs printers is this color laser jet printer with greater flexibility and ease of operations. After its purchase our primary concern was the ease of use. Being such an elaborately defined chassis for multipurpose printing options, the HP LaserJet 4700 was a bit intimidating to handle at first. However it did not take long to familiarize with this user friendly machine.

The HP LaserJet 4700 has proven a true work place companion and has added to the ease of our business operations. This powerful printer has taken our workgroup printing to the next level through greater perfection and the excellent quality of the print outs. The initial hesitation being a new user was primarily for quality of visuals included in the document. However as the first color image slid out of the output slot it was pure joy to see how realistic it looked and how smooth it appeared. Even the paper was crisp and straight which was pure bliss. Since then this printer has not failed to surpass our professional scrutiny.

Time has always been an issue at our workplace so the next challenge this HP LaserJet 4700 was subject to was speedy output. Through employing the latest technology, the very first page that came out of this printer after the data was entered took not more than 10 seconds. Its expandable memory allows taking approximately 33 colored or monochrome prints per minute with a color balance that is better than that produced by many similar products. It also has an automatic system for duplex printing, a USB and an EIO slot for more convenient use.

In the workplace, the HP LaserJet 4700 has been able to serve multiple users for a long time. However it is important to monitor it and refill its 100 sheet multipurpose tray regularly to continue the process without any slowdowns. Although it is slightly expensive compared to many other printers, for us it has proven to be a pretty good investment that has never failed to produce a pleasing print.

After the initial installation of software and drivers, and connecting HP LaserJet 4700 to the computer system, all we had to do was click the print button to produce great quality, vibrant black and white as well as color prints of pictures, diagrams and texts every time we needed to. Its toners last a while, and it has given consistent and reliable performance so far.

Xerox XC830

Sunday, June 9, 2013
The XC830 is a quality copier from Xerox, aimed squarely at business users. It offers features that are normally reserved for much larger and more expensive devices.

The controls are crude but effective. Simple enough to be able to satisfy most demands but nothing more. The buttons cover most of the features, and the small LCD displays copy numbers, error codes and toner levels.

Out of the packaging, the XC830 is easy to install and configure. The toners are good for 4000 pages duty cycle for even the most busy offices. The paper drawer won’t last too long though at 150 sheet capacity. It will be enough to low users, but may become annoying to the busier environment.

Warm up takes around 15 seconds, with the first copy appearing a further 14 seconds after that. In sleep mode the device is silent, and when copying the noise is evident but not overbearing, there are certainly much louder devices out there.

Reproduction is accurate, with monochrome text appearing crisp and clear. Photos looked a little on the dark side, but once the settings were changed appeared fine. While this is easy to do, we shouldn’t really have to do it on a machine of this caliber. With a copy speed of 17 pages per minute for monochrome, it is a quick mover for such an affordable machine. Probably more suited to a home office or small business than a busy office or workgroup.

Overall, the XC830 is a value for money office device with rich enough copying quality to satisfy most needs. Replacement consumables are readily available and good value, while robust enough to last the test of time. Anyone in the market for a good, solid copier would be advised to check out the XC830.

If in search of a multipurpose printer that can print, copy, scan and fax documents with efficiency, speed, accuracy and neatness and is ideal for a small work environment, look no further than the Savin 2518. This great printer is not only fast, reliable and efficient, it also features the latest digital technology which means that that printing, faxing and scanning functions of this machine have been upgraded and enhanced to a whole new level. This machine has been given a sleek design instead of the usual bulky appearances of most other printing and copying machines. This means that while it can handle all office demands, it does not occupy too much space in the room and looks pretty good.

The Savin 2518 is capable of printing up to 18 pages per minute and can hold up to 1600 pages at a time at standard conditions. This paper holding capacity can be further enhanced by adding an automatic document feeder which allows users to add 30 more print pages to the machines holder. The fax function of this machine is also well known and it can transmit 1 fax in just 3 seconds. Faxes are neat, accurate, high quality and fax production and generation can be upgraded by using additional features such as batch transmission and dual access.

Digital technology that this printer has been built in with plays a key role in its success. It allows users to explore a whole world of new possibilities where there is minimum manual support needed during printing, scanning and copying tasks. Furthermore, with this state-of-the-art technology the machine is better adapted to handling, integrating, organizing and retrieving data that has been fed in to it. The automatic document feeder allows users to relax while the printer independently keeps adding pages that the printer needs while performing printing and other tasks. Furthermore, it can scan documents in to its memories at the first copy which means that users will not have to wait for long to get back originals while copies are being produced.

The automatic duplexing feature of the Savin 2518 is particularly popular. Through this feature, users can save time, energy and reduce paper costs to exactly half. In addition to using this feature for printing jobs, with the fax option and automatic reversing document feeder, it can fax double sided documents completely on its own.
